Neon Responder Installation Instructions
This folder contains a small initialization file (INIT) called "Neon Responder".
Some of the most advanced features of LANsurveyor rely on the Neon Responder's
presence on MacOS machines on your network. This Responder is not, however,
required in order for LANsurveyor to map and manage your network.
For MacOS nodes running the Neon Responder, LANsurveyor can query for:
• Complete network configuration information for both TCP/IP and AppleTalk,
including IP and Ethernet addresses and Open Transport or MacTCP version
information.
• System and Hardware profiles, such as MacOS version, CPU type, installed
RAM, mounted volume capacity and free space, and much more.
• Software profiles which include lists of applications, Control Panels,
Extensions, Fonts, Startup Items and their version numbers. These lists
eliminate repetitive, manual tasks like spotting Extension conflicts,
finding outdated software versions, and identifying missing fonts.
• Hardware and Software inventory reports and asset management through
the use of predefined and user-customizable reports.
• Quit and launch applications remotely.
• Distribute files and folders.
• Send instant messages across the network.
• Shut down and restart remotely.
To install the Neon Responder on a MacOS machine, simply drag the
Responder's icon to the System folder, then restart. Under MacOS
System 7 or later, the Neon Responder will automatically be placed in the
Extensions folder. If you have installed the Neon Responder properly, the
following icon will appear when the MacOS machine is restarted:
Your Neon Responder license allows you to install the Neon Responder on up to
20 MacOS machines.
You can purchase additional Neon Responders from Neon Software in quantities
of 25, 50 or 100 at a time. Site license pricing is also available. Contact Neon
Software or the Neon Software international distributor near you for more
information on expanding LANsurveyor's capabilities through additional Responder
licenses.
